One of the most common points of confusion for South African students is the difference between public and private institutions.
Public Universities and TVET Colleges
Public universities and TVET colleges are government-funded, which means students who qualify can access government bursaries such as NSFAS to cover tuition, accommodation, and living costs.
Private Colleges and Universities
Private colleges and universities are independently funded, government bursaries such as NSFAS generally do not apply, but many private institutions offer their own bursaries and payment plans.
